Diagnostic services are the cornerstone of effective healthcare delivery, enabling accurate and timely medical decisions that directly influence patient outcomes. With the increasing demand for advanced diagnostic capabilities, independent healthcare providers have become vital partners to the NHS, enhancing diagnostic services through the integration of cutting-edge technologies and efficient service delivery.

This award recognises independent providers who have significantly improved diagnostic services for NHS patients, whether through faster turnaround times, higher diagnostic accuracy, or the implementation of innovative technologies. Projects can be conducted independently or in collaboration with NHS organisations, and must demonstrate their effectiveness within the past two years.

Eligibility

  • Open to any independent healthcare provider delivering diagnostic services free at the point of care to NHS patients.
  • Projects can be conducted independently or in collaboration with an NHS organisation. While a partnership with the NHS is encouraged, it is not mandatory; however, all projects must serve NHS patients.
  • Evidence must be provided from the past two years up until the awards entry deadline.

Ambition

The challenge and context within which your project, person or organisation is set alongside your goals and targets whether quantitative or qualitative, and how this aligns with national priorities.

  • Describe the diagnostic challenge and context your project addressed, such as demand for advanced capability and timely, accurate diagnosis.
  • Outline the goals and targets set, detailing how they address clinical needs and patient care.
  • Explain the technologies or methodologies introduced to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Collaboration

  • Highlight how stakeholder input shaped the project’s development and success.
  • Provide evidence of continuous collaboration through feedback mechanisms and joint working.

Impact

The measurable benefits delivered to patients, staff, your organisation or the wider system. Provide data and evidence showing improvements to outcomes, quality, access, equity or efficiency.

  • Provide clear, quantifiable evidence of improved diagnostic accuracy, reduced waiting times and better health outcomes.
  • Share success metrics, patient testimonials and before-and-after comparisons.
  • Describe improvements in operational efficiency and value for money.

Scale

How your work has been shared, adopted or replicated beyond your immediate team or organisation. This includes dissemination through publications, presentations, toolkits, partnerships or inspiring similar initiatives elsewhere.

  • Describe how best practice from the initiative has been shared with other providers or organisations.
  • Discuss the mechanisms used to disseminate practice, such as publications, conferences or networks.

Sustainability

The potential for the project/work to continue and create lasting impact. Evidence of how it can be sustained or built upon.
